PRIVATE TRAINING SERVICES

Private Training: Services

PUPPY MANNERS

This class is for puppies 1 year and under. Topics covered include the name game, potty training, crate training, sit, down, come, basic leash walking, supervised separation, and getting comfortable being handled.

OBEDIENCE LEVEL 1

This beginner class teaches the basics of obedience. Intro to loose leash walking, sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, come, off, and place.

OBEDIENCE LEVEL 2

All dogs must have completed Obedience Level 1 in order to join this course. If your dog has taken a beginners obedience class elsewhere, you may be able to test into this class. This intermediate class teaches heeling, auto sits, greeting a friendly stranger, as well as sit, down, place and stay with added distractions and longer durations.

OBEDIENCE LEVEL 3

All dogs must have completed Obedience Level 2 in order to join this course. If your dog has taken an intermediate class elsewhere, you may be able to test into this class. This advanced class teaches tight heeling with parallel auto sits, heeling through a crowd of people, off leash sit, down, place, front, finish, out of sight stay, and long distance come. Pet parents must be dedicated to spending daily practice time with their dog to be successful and pass this class.

E-COLLAR COURSE

All dogs must have completed Obedience Level 2 in order to join this course. This course is only offered upon personal request. Handlers/owners must be able to think on their feet, have excellent timing, dedication to at home practice, and a quick reflex to the remote. You'll learn proper and humane use of the e-collar on the working level setting. Your dog will feel a gentle tickle, not a shock. Acceptable brands include Dogtra, SportDOG, E-Collar Technologies, and Garmin. It is highly recommend you use the Mini Educator by E-Collar Technologies, as it is the collar I have the most confidence and experience with.

AKC TRICK DOG NOVICE

All dogs must have completed Puppy Manners or Obedience Level 1 in order to join this course. If your dog has had basic training elsewhere, you may be able to test into this class. The American Kennel Club requires 10 tricks (click here to read them in PDF). If the dog has a CGC title, this will count toward 5 tricks. Clicker tricks are a fun way to get your dog mentally stimulated, and you'll have a blast too! Teach your dog how to shake hands, play dead, jump through a hoop, and more. Pet parents must think quickly and have a fast motion reflex to use the clicker.

AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

This American Kennel Club course has 10 test items (click here to read them) that the dog must pass. Grading is strict and there is no leniency. The CGC title is required for advanced training programs, such as therapy work or agility (depending on the company). Some homeowners’ insurance programs have discounts for dogs that have passed CGC. Some apartments that are not pet friendly will make exceptions for CGC dogs. This course and final exam are typically held in a pet store. Reactive, aggressive, or fearful dogs may not enter this course.

AKC STAR PUPPY

This 6 week course is for puppies under 1 year old. It is a standardized course and exam by the American Kennel Club. There are 20 test items (click here to read them). Owners will learn to build a relationship with their puppy and start the puppy off on the right foot for basic obedience. Passing the exam is a great precursor to Canine Good Citizen.

CRATE TRAINING HOUR

This is a 1 time hour long session where we will discuss how to appropriately acclimate your dog to the crate. If you have not purchased a crate yet, please do so before the session. Remember that crates should be big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lay down. I recommend plastic portable kennel style crates over wire crates.

POTTY TRAINING HOUR

This is a 1 time hour long session where we will discuss training methods and helpful tools to potty train your dog. This is a great way to start your puppy off right or correct potty issues with an adult dog.

PUPPY TEMPERAMENT TESTING

For puppies 7-8 weeks old ONLY. Temperament testing is an excellent way to learn about your puppy's personality and can give insight to potential issues they may grow into as an adult. Topics include: sound sensitivity, energy level, dominant or submissive tendencies, play drive and more. Testing is recommended for breeders, curious pet parents, and handlers who expect to use the puppy for dog sports, competition, or working. The testing is done at the trainers house in a neutral room where test scores will not be affected by a familiar environment. Cost is $50 per puppy, breeders will be given a discount for the whole litter. You'll receive a copy of the test scores that you can keep.

CUSTOM TRAINING

This is a "create your own" class. During our consultation we will format a training plan tailored to your interests. This may be beneficial to pet parents on a time crunch that can only squeeze in 3 training sessions or those who prefer an extensive class on topics not covered in typical group classes.

FAQS

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO OUR TRAINING SESSIONS?

  • For our very first training session please bring a copy of your dogs rabies vaccination records. If you have a young puppy who has not had their rabies shot yet, bring their standard puppy shots record (DHLPP/DA2PP etc).

  • About 100 pea sized training treats in any flavor that your dog loves. Crunchy treats discouraged.

  • 2 of your dogs favorite toys.

  • Water and water bowl.

  • A 6ft leash. Your dog must remain on the leash at all times during our training sessions for safety.

  • A flat buckle collar.

  • A partner. Each class will have fun exercises that require you work together with one friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY HOST CLASSES?

Most private classes are held in the dog owners home, typically in the backyard or living room. Certain classes may take place in a pet store.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

It's great to get the whole family involved with training your dog at home! However, I do not recommend bringing kids to class. Children under the age of 13 usually get bored and interrupt class because of it. If you are unable to find a babysitter and must bring them, I completely understand. I advise bringing snacks and coloring books to keep them occupied. Remember that kids must be supervised at all times and may not pet other dogs during group classes.

I WANT TO CORRECT ONE ISSUE WITH MY DOG, CAN WE HAVE A ONE-TIME SESSION?

If you are not looking to complete a full class, please email me for info and rates.
